PowerPoint for Windows: In fall 2013, Microsoft temporarily withdrew the option to embed YouTube videos in PowerPoint because YouTube had changed the format of many of its videos, so the embedded videos often would not play. In April 2014, Microsoft released an update that once again allowed embedding of YouTube videos. Before using the instructions below, be sure that your installed version of Office is fully up to date.
Here's how to embed videos in PowerPoint for Windows after you have installed the updates:

PowerPoint 2011 for Mac: Unfortunately, at this time (May 2015) there is no easy way to insert YouTube videos if you are using the Mac version of PowerPoint. Your best option currently is to use a program to save the YouTube video as an .mp4 or .mov file on your Mac and then use the Insert Movie function in PowerPoint. One popular program for saving YouTube videos is Free YouTube Converter for Mac; it can be downloaded at http://download.cnet.com/Free-YouTube-Converter/3000-2194_4-75734820.html.
