Q. How will my Biol 2230 Mircobiology Virtual class work this fall?

Thank you for your interest in our Microbiology course this fall!

While two sections of Micro will be offered fully online (online lecture using pre-recorded video tutorials and a free, open-access online textbook, together with online lab using a lab kit costing about $250), most Micro classes will combine online lecture (using pre-recorded video tutorials based on Tortora, Funke, and Case’s textbook Microbiology:  An Introduction, 3rd customized edition available through the Chattanooga State bookstore or 13th edition available from Pearson publishing or other online sellers) and a hybrid lab.  The hybrid lab will mostly be completed online (using a lab manual and other learning resources embedded in eLearn), but the hybrid Micro lab will meet once during the semester (Week 2, August 31 through September 6) for hands-on work.  Optional video conferencing will be available for Micro classes and labs with scheduled days and times for you to connect with your instructor and classmates, have opportunities to ask questions, and hear your and your classmates’ questions answered in real time.

The fully online Micro section will include two proctored exams, while all other Micro classes and labs will include a total of four proctored exams for lecture and for lab during fall semester.  You will have the option of setting up appointments with the Testing Center to take your proctored exams on campus, or your exams can be proctored from any location using the Honorlock test proctoring software.
