Q. Library Tech - Student is unable to access library databases from off campus
Example: "I am a Chattanooga State student. I am home and need to access some library databases for a research paper, but it will not allow me to do so. I have logged in, but every time I click on a certain database, like Artstor for example, it tells me the site cannot be reached."
Error message from off campus: "This site cannot be reached"
This error is usually caused by a problem with the proxy server that the library uses to connect off-campus students with various licensed online library resources, including ArtStor, EBSCOhost, Films on Demand, JSTOR, Lexis Nexis (Nexis Uni) and others. Patrons should get a logon screen where they can enter their TigerMail address and password.
Try going to the online resource yourself (from a library computer on campus) to confirm that the problem is not with the database itself. If it's OK from on-campus, suggest that the student try a different browser such as Chrome or Firefox and let you know if it they still have the same problem.
You may also need to try the following:
* restart your router
* clear browser history/cache
Please contact the library at 423-697-4448 for further assistance.
